GATESHEAD HOSTS ANOTHER DIGITAL BUSINESS

NE1 Internet is the latest new business to Gateshead’s fast growing digital economy.
Having hosted websites for customers in his spare time, Ken Mosley has taken the step of setting up his first full time venture in Gateshead’s Creative Quarter – on the south side of the Tyne Bridge.
NE1 offers customers anything from web hosting for smaller outfits, internet access, space for server co-location, dedicated server rental and disaster recovery space.
Ken has had a long career in telecoms and electronics and this experience combined with growing demand for data services spells a bright future for the local resident who has invested over £650k in this initial phase of the business.
Gateshead Council has provided a huge amount of technical and business support, not least by installing internet access via a superfast fibre optic network through their JV company G-ti. The installation has been at no cost to NE1 allowing valuable capital to be spent on other things and at the same time helping the business provide a fast, secure, failsafe service to their customers.
Ken applauds the Council’s foresight and thinks the G-ti network is a huge asset that will bring benefits to local businesses and regeneration to the area.
And he has been impressed with the technical team – “support has been excellent – plenty of ideas and a can-do approach”
Phase 2 of NE1 is planned with a £1.1m data centre just around the corner on High Level Parade (adjacent to the High Level bridge). Ken plans to employ four people in Phase 1 and another four in Phase 2
Leader of Gateshead Council Mick Henry said “ The Council invested in our fibre optic network some time ago because we want Gateshead to be a great place for digital businesses who rely on superfast broadband. We’re now seeing the rewards with nearly one hundred successful new and young creative businesses in central Gateshead alone.”
NE1 is the latest company to locate in Gateshead’s Creative Quarter, one of the most dynamic and exciting business environments in the North East. Already home to a range of leading creative and digital businesses, work has recently begun on the Northern Design Centre, the region’s new home of design
